Brian A. Fitzhenry was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1965. He grew up in North Arlington and attended St. Peter’s University where he earned a degree in Marketing.

Following graduation, he honed his marketing and business development skills working with communication and transportation companies culminating in his present position of Vice President of Marketing for Newrent, Inc., where he has been employed for 19 years and where he has spearheaded efforts in transportation development and expansion.

As a highly respected business professional in the transportation industry, Mr. Fitzhenry utilized his expertise in negotiation, public speaking, media interaction and development strategies to meet the needs of his community.

As a six year member of the North Arlington Board of Education, where he also served as President, Mr. Fitzhenry used his business acumen to negotiate teacher contracts and vendor and customer agreements, while staying within the confines of an adopted budget, thereby highlighting his grass roots strategies and still advancing the educational needs of North Arlington’s students, teachers and administrators,

As a member and current President of the North Arlington Education Foundation, Mr. Fitzhenry developed policy and encouraged community support to insure that North Arlington was the deserving recipient of grant monies to institute after school and summer programs for its youth. Now known as the North Arlington SACC Program, it serves over 200 students year round. Mr. Fitzhenry oversees the budget and programs and brings public awareness and support for the program.

As a member of the North Arlington Fire Department since 1991, he served in a variety of leadership positions, including Chief of the Department in 2010. During his tenure, Mr. Fitzhenry has written a number of grant applications which resulted in receipt of over $1 million in grant funds for equipment and services. During his term as Chief, the Department acquired a $750,000 ladder truck through the grant matching funds initiative. He was recently elected by his peers once again to serve as Chief for a 3 year term.

In 2013, Mr. Fitzhenry ran for New Jersey State Senate in District 36. Running against a longtime, well-funded incumbent, Mr. Fitzhenry ran a grassroots hard fought campaign. While the outcome did not produce a win, the results surprised most in the political world. The base support was not there but it proved Mr. Fitzhenry is not afraid to take on the power brokers.

In addition to these community efforts, Mr. Fitzhenry was Chair of the North Arlington Zoning Board of Adjustment and member of the Queen of Peace Grammar School CYO Board. He also coaches girls and boys basketball, Little League and softball teams. In his spare time, having a love for his family traditions and music, he plays the bagpipes for the St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band, Kearny NJ. He continues to be a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus for the past 30 years.

Mr. Fitzhenry has had more than 30 years involvement in local government and has developed strategies to advance a broad range of public policies and agendas through his business success and expertise, as well as his broad knowledge of local and state issues. Mr. Fitzhenry’s involvement shows that his civic duty is a testament to his commitment to community.

A life-long resident of North Arlington, Mr. Fitzhenry has been married to his wife, Donna for 20 years and has three children, Brian, Jr., age 16 and twins Thomas and Erin Mary, age 13.
