When a major emergency or disaster occurs, first responders may be overwhelmed by the volume of calls for assistance. Communication disruptions, road closures, and the number of people requiring help can delay emergency response, making it critical for neighbors to assist one another until professional responders arrive.

The North Arlington Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a dedicated group of trained volunteers who help strengthen the Borough's emergency preparedness and resilience. CERT members are equipped with the knowledge and skills to support their families, neighbors, and community during emergencies while also assisting public safety personnel at community events and during disaster response and recovery efforts.

Join the Team!

North Arlington CERT is always seeking community-minded volunteers who are interested in making a difference. CERT welcomes residents of North Arlington and surrounding communities who are 18 years of age or older. A Teen CERT program is also available for participants ages 16 to 18.

Training is provided at no cost and covers essential emergency preparedness topics, including:

• Disaster preparedness
• Fire safety and fire suppression
• Basic disaster medical operations and first aid
• Light search and rescue
• Team organization
• Disaster psychology
• Terrorism awareness
• Hands-on disaster response exercises
• Participants also receive free CPR and AED certification.

Training classes are held annually in Paramus, New Jersey, during the spring and fall seasons. Upon successful completion of the program, members are encouraged to participate in ongoing training, emergency preparedness initiatives, and community events.

Monthly Meetings

North Arlington CERT meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the CERT trailer, located in the parking lot of Borough Hall. Meetings provide opportunities for continuing education, training, planning, and team coordination.
