Case #18-10563 - Potential Threat to North Arlington HS Results in Arrest & Charges
December 04, 2018At approximately 1:47PM on Monday, December 3, 2018, the North Arlington High School received information of a potential threat made over social media. The initial information reported referenced the North Arlington High School, however, at that time, there were no specific individuals named. Although the threat could not be verified as credible at that point, the proper actions were taken, involving a lock down, and notification to the police department. The North Arlington Police Department immediately responded and mobilized all resources available, which resulted in the individuals involved being located within minutes. Once those individuals were in custody, with the investigation ongoing, it was determined that no threat existed, and the school lockdown ended, with the students being dismissed only minimally later than usual.
The subsequent North Arlington Police department investigation resulted in one individual being charged criminally with making threats. The arrested adult was processed and released on summons, in compliance with current New Jersey criminal justice reform guidelines. The actor is identified as, Elvis Smajlaj, 21 year old male, who resides in North Arlington.
