NJDOT Traffic Advisory: Route 7 Belleville Bridge Over the Passaic River to have Temporary Stoppages on Wednesday
June 02, 2026Stoppages necessary for bridge testing
Route 7 is scheduled to have temporary traffic stoppages on Wednesday for testing of the Belleville Bridge over the Passaic River between Belleville, Essex County and Kearny, Hudson County and North Arlington, Bergen County.
From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, June 3, Route 7 is scheduled to have temporary 15-minute traffic stoppages in both directions before the Belleville Bridge over the Passaic River. The stoppages are necessary to allow for testing of the lift bridge. Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and expect delays.
The work is part of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) bi-annual inspection, which is federally funded for all bridges in the state. As part of the NBIS inspection, every movable bridge goes through Interlock Safety Testing to ensure the bridge operates safely for both roadway and marine traffic.
Attenuator trucks will be utilized to block the roadway at 15-minute increments while testing takes place. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information, and for NJDOT news follow us on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT, on the NJDOT Facebook page, or Instagram @NewJersey.DOT.
