Our Mission Statement:
“The North Arlington Volunteer Fire Department will be a professional fire department providing a proactive approach to acquire the necessary equipment, skills, and abilities to safely handle the challenges of emergency incidents now and in the future. We shall be a dynamic organization that adjusts to the changing needs of the community.”
In 1910, the residents of the Borough of North Arlington saw the need to organize a volunteer fire department and Hendel Hose Company #1 was incorporated. As sections of the Borough became more populated additional Fire Companies were added, Schuyler Engine Company #2 in 1916 and Eagle Hose Company #3 in 1922. The Borough has grown over the last 100 years. With a roster of 85 firefighters, the North Arlington Volunteer Fire Department continues to evolve, train and develop to meet the new challenges of the 21st century.
Requirements for Membership
General Requirements
A. An applicant for membership in the North Arlington Fire Department shall meet the following requirements:
- Be a citizen of the United States of America.
- Shall have reached the age of eighteen (18), and shall not be a student at any secondary school.
- Shall possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
- Shall consent to a criminal record check conducted by the North Arlington Police Department.
- Shall satisfactorily complete the following examinations:
1-) medical physical. (at no cost to applicant)
B. An applicant for membership may reside in North Arlington or any of the following contiguous communities:
Lyndhurst, NJ Bergen County (Entirety)
Kearny, NJ Hudson County (From Belleville Tpke to Quincy Ave, Passaic Ave to east of Schuyler Ave)
In the event that a waiting list for applicants exist, preference will be given to Borough Residents.
Training Requirements (After Appointment)
A. Completion of NJDFS approved Firefighter 1 Curriculum
B. Monthly Drill
C. Borough mandated training (RTK, Bloodborne Pathogen, Workplace training)
D. Annual Live Burn Exercise
E. Any other training required by State, Borough or Department.
